AN UNBEATEN season from Tynedale RFC Ladies saw them lift the inaugural Thornton Hickey Winter League.
Touch rugby is a fast growing sport throughout the district, with the league packed full of teams from across the North-East.
Although all teams have been playing for less than two years, the league was fiercely contested.
Joining Tynedale Ladies where Alnwick RFC Ladies, Ryton RFC Ladies, Houghton RFC Ladies and Darlington Mowden Park RFC Ladies Social Team, with each team playing one another home and away in the competition.
And in reward for their unbeaten season, Tynedale were presented with the winter league trophy at the Alnwick RFC Ladies Touch Rugby Tournament, which they also won.
Coach and captain Annie Lees praised the team’s work over the season.
She said: “We are no spring chickens, but we have proved that hard work and commitment, by the whole squad, can be well rewarded with great results.
“No one could have predicted this time last year that we would be playing the way we are now.
“I am very proud to be part of this team of amazing women.”
Newcomers are always welcome to join Tynedale Women’s RFC. No experience is required, though a sense of humour is preferred!
There’s also no upper age limit.
Training takes place at 6pm every Thursday at Tynedale RFC, Tynedale Park, Corbridge.
