PRUDHOE YC Seniors took less than 48 hours to recover from last Thursday’s defeat in the final of the Team Valley Carpets Combination Cup final.

They followed up the 2-0 reverse against Cullercoats with a 4-1 victory over Red Row Welfare, at Kimberly Park, on Saturday.

Ben Bloomer put them ahead after receiving a pass from Brad Rogers. Using his pace, the former took the ball away from a defender before finding the bottom corner with a neat finish.

Red Row equalised, before Prudhoe regained their lead courtesy of a penalty before half time. Bloomer was floored in the box, and Rogers scored his ninth spot kick of the season. Five minutes into the second period, Kieran Russel played an intelligent through ball for Matty Robinson, who scored with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-1.

The Seniors scored their fourth and final goal when a Bloomer cross from the right was headed home from close range by Jordan Phillips. Bloomer, who scored one goal and assisted two others, was man of the match.

Prudhoe YC Seniors’ club secretary Duncan Graham said: “We responded well from the cup final disappointment. There was a lot of good football on Saturday and some very impressive goals.”

The cup final was a frustrating one for Prudhoe, who contested a decision to award a free kick which led to the opening goal.

Graham added: “Unfortunately these things happen in football. We’ve had a good season and with our exciting young team, we are looking forward to next season.”

Prudhoe are set to introduce a senior development team next season, to provide a platform for local players to progress to the first team.
