PRUDHOE looked set to be heading for three points at Gosforth Bohemians on Saturday - before a bizarre twist to proceedings in the closing stages.

Gosforth brought their goalkeeper Daniel Coyle outfield, and he assisted an 89th minute equaliser before scoring the 90th minute winner in a 2-1 victory, in Northern Alliance Division One.

For the first 75 minutes, a goalless draw appeared to be on the cards. Prudhoe had enjoyed much of the possession, but could not convert the chances they created.

With 15 minutes to go, Brad Rogers gave the Seniors the lead from the penalty spot - a goal which came shortly after a previous penalty appeal had been turned down.

“We were looking comfortable,” said Prudhoe YC Seniors’ secretary Duncan Graham. “But then they brought the goalkeeper outfield and it made the difference.

“Fair play to them. They tried something and it worked. It was disappointing for us but sometimes that can happen in football.”

Prudhoe swiftly turned their attention to the Team Valley Carpets Combination Cup final, in which which were set to take on Cullercoats, tonight.

Prudhoe are set to be missing a few key players due to injury, including Sam Dibb-Fuller, Darren Graham, and Elijah Timmins-Scanlon.

The eagerly-anticipated match follows a semi-final win over Seaton Burn.

It will kick off at 7pm, at Birtley Town in Gateshead.
