CANOEIST Anna-Louise Glendenning competed for England in the Pan Celtic Race at Grandtully in Scotland.

The national Hexham Canoe Club member went up against top level opponents in the annual event on the River Tay.

And despite paddling-up from national Division One for the Premier Division event, against competitors from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, she excelled, finishing second.

The achievement saw Anna-Louise gain a remarkable 1,200 promotion points, as she moves towards her dream goal of promotion to the the Premier League.

While North of the Border, Anna-Louise competed at Aberfeldy, where she also doubled-up as a judge. She produced a fast, clean run, which saw her finish as first female judge.

Last weekend, Anna-Louise returned to Grandtully for a Division One event, and earned both second and first place finishes.

Fellow Hexham members Chloe Glendenning and Ryan Dodd also competed at both Aberfeldy and Grandtully. They paired up to win the C2 at Aberfeldy, with a fast, clean run.

At Grandtully, youngster Ryan paddled-up to compete in the Division One race, where he successfully negotiated all of the gates on a tricky, testing course.

Hexham’s David Glendenning competed in the K1, and for the first time, in the C1 class, finishing second.

Two Hexham members, Mike Brennan and Edward Dando, excelled in the open class at the the James Harrison Memorial Race at Wark, where they gained promotions into division three, after demonstrating their skill and abilities, and producing outstanding times.

Hexham’s David Glendenning competed in the K1, and for the first time, in the C1 class, finishing second.

“Our members have really done us proud,” said Hexham Canoe Club’s Lorraine Glendenning. “Anna-Louise lost a lot of last year’s season after dislocating her elbow, and now she is keen to make up for lost time.

“Chloe has also come back from injury, and we really are delighted with everyone’s progress. It is very encouraging.”
