AFTER a slow start to the football season, Wallington's transformation into a top-four side in the Northern Alliance Premier Division has been impressive.

On Saturday, they took on league leaders Newcastle University away from home, and came away with a very credible 3-3 draw.

Wallington took the lead twice in the game, and the Greens' determined performance saw them named Team of the Week.

Darren Towart was part of the Great Britain team which won bronze in the 4x200m relay at the World Indoor Championships in Poland.

His major contribution as second leg runner, after initially being first reserve for the team, saw Towart named Star of the Week

A special mention goes to Alan Heslop, the Hexham golfer who won the trophy he founded 29 years ago, the St Andrews Trophy, at Craigielaw, near North Berwick.

Other performances worthy of note are: Morgan Passman's fifth hat-trick of the season for Tynedale Rugby Club in the first XV's 36-19 win over Sheffield Tigers; and Hexham FC's in-form pair Dylan Mabunu and Sam Mannion, who continued their respective goalscoring runs against Seaton Burn.
