GOLFER Alan Heslop has won a tournament he originally founded almost three decades ago.
The St Andrews Trophy has been contested annually by members of Hexham Golf Club since 1991, following an initial away trip to the iconic venue, widely regarded as the home of golf.
The tournament is played at a different course every year, with the latest taking place at Craigielaw, near North Berwick.
Veteran player Alan, who has overcome numerous health and fitness battles over the years, was the winner with 36 stableford points.
Rob Bull was second on countback from third place Craig Cessford, on 34 points.
The Hexham golfers headed north for a round at St Andrews the following day, where Alan was pictured on the famous Swilken Bridge.
“It was meant to be,” said friend Garry Cunningham. “Everyone is over the moon for Alan.”
