A TYNE Valley rugby club has put out an appeal for new players as it looks to reach the top of the table.

Prudhoe and Stocksfield Rugby Club’s coach, Chris Russell, say the side is looking for players to bolster their young squad.

The team is in need of front row players and backs, and Chris thinks that with a few additions the team could challenge at the top of the table.

Chris said: “We have a very young squad, and we’ve had a few additions but we’re trying to build on what we have.

“We’ve been crying out for front row players and really good backs, but it’s a case of anyone who wants to play coming down, even if they haven’t played before.

“I think if we get two or three players in of a decent standard we could be pushing the top two or three.”

The current season has just two games left, with Prudhoe and Stocksfield currently sitting ninth in the league, having won eight games this year.

Chris is encouraging anyone who would like to play to head along to training, which takes place at 7pm on Thursday at Stocksfield Cricket Club.

He added: “We have a really good bunch of lads, and it’s run out of a family oriented club with a good atmosphere.

“It’s a particularly young squad, the majority of our players are aged between 19 and 24, but we also have players in their 30s and 40s who play a big role.

“There’s different ways to get in touch, we have a Facebook page and a website, but just come down to training on a Thursday evening and join us.”
