ON the back of successful four years, the Scott Dark Skies Run at Kielder has again been included in a weekend of sporting activity.

Runners are being invited to race under the darkest night skies in England in the dark skies run at Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland.

The events will take place over the weekend from Friday, March 22, through to Sunday, March 24.

What started out as an event for just 100 participants, it has grown astronomically ant this year there has been 1,200 entries.

Trail run experts Tim Bateson and Garry Scott from Trail Outlaws have organised the event.

Tim Bateson said: “Mike and I have ran around Kielder plenty of times but did it once at night and thought what a beautiful idea this is.

“It’s a very different kind of run compared to the others at Kielder where runners will need to carry specialist equipment.

“However it wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for all the dedicated volunteers who are helping out.”

The event is split into three races for the first time to give runners of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part.

A brand new, 10-mile event will take place on Friday, and the 26.5-mile event the following day. The 14-mile event will bring the weekend to a close on Sunday.

Returning for 2019 is the opportunity to also run ‘The Dark Skies Double’, where daring runners are tasked with running both the 14-mile and 26.5-mile events. There is even the chance to become a Dark Skies Run ‘legend’ by completing the triple challenge.

All entries will receive a a bespoke medal, t-shirt and snood. For those completing the double or triple challenges, exclusive awards will also be handed out.

Tim added: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to Northumberland.”

Race results will be published at www.darkskiesrun.com.
