CRICKET clubs across the district are set to offer a national coaching programme aimed at introducing children to the sport.
All Stars Cricket is the England and Wales Cricket Board’s entry level participation scheme, aimed at providing youngsters aged five to eight with a great first experience in cricket.
Six local clubs - Allendale, Corbridge, Stamfordham, Stocksfield, Tynedale, and Wylam, are set to serve as All Stars Cricket centres from May onwards.
Young participants will receive eight, one-hour activity-based sessions with a focus on developing cricketing skills and having fun. As the weeks progress, each child will earn stars to mark their progress.
They will also have an All Stars Cricket backpack delivered to their door. It will include a cricket bat, ball, personalised shirt and cap, and two sticker books.
One will be linked to the Cricket World Cup, and the other will be based on Durham County Cricket Club.
Participants will also be eligible for a free Durham Cricket Club junior membership and free entry into their T20 matches. To register visit allstarscricket.co.uk. For more information contact West Northumberland cricket development officer Tom Cant at tom.cant@northumberlandcricketboard.co.uk
