PRUDHOE YC Seniors booked their place in the final of the Team Valley Carpets Combination Cup with a rampant display at Seaton Burn.

The semi-final, which Prudhoe won 5-1, finally took place on Saturday at the third time of asking, after twice being postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

But there was no stopping the match this time, and there was no stopping a confident Prudhoe side which has played a lot of attacking football this season.

After a fairly even start to proceedings, Prudhoe began to exert their dominance after 10 minutes. They took the lead just before the half hour mark, when Darren Graham was fouled in the box after running onto a through ball from Elijah Timmins-Scanlon.

Brad Rogers converted the spot kick, but Prudhoe gave away their lead just over 10 minutes later.

The Seniors lost possession on the edge of their own box, and Seaton Burn took advantage to equalise.

But just three minutes later, Kieran Russel scored a trademark header at the far post from an inswinging Matty Robinson corner.

Prudhoe took a 2-1 lead into half time, and came out for the second period on the front foot.

On 65 minutes, Luke Banks scored a tremendous solo goal, beating four players before neatly slotting the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

David Burns converted another Robinson corner to make it 4-1 on the 70 minute mark, and Burns scored his second and Prudhoe’s fifth on 77 minutes.

“It was a great team move,” said club secretary Duncan Graham. “We switched the ball from left to right with some crisp passing, before Burns scored with an assist from Banks.

“We played some really good football, especially in the second half.”

Graham also praised the contribution of goalkeeper Geoffrey Bowes, who saved a fiercely struck shot in the closing stages.
