DARREN Towart has followed up his recent world record breaking exploits with another top performance.

The Tynedale Harrier set a new indoor world record in the M40 (over 40s) 400m hurdles in Sheffield, two weeks ago.

And last weekend, he overcome injury to win bronze in the 60m hurdles, and a silver medal in the 400m (flat) race at the Scottish Masters Championship in Glasgow.

Towart, who also competed in the 60m (flat), and finished fourth in the 200m (flat) in Glasgow, said: “I was still feeling an injury from the week before.

“When hurdling it can knock your sacroiliac joint out, which prevents you from getting top end speed, so it was a very good performance. I went out there and did my best.”

The 41-year-old’s next competition will be the World Indoor Championships in Poland in March, and the Heddon-on-the Wall resident will continue to work alongside coach Peter Venue.

“It’s all about getting as fit as possible and as ready as I can be for the world indoors.

“It’s all about training hard. I won’t race any more until Poland, so hopefully I can get stronger for them.”

Last August, Towart won 400m hurdles gold at the British Masters Championships in Birmingham, during what was a prolific year for the athlete.
