HEXHAM U18 are through to the NFA Cup semi-finals after a 3-2 win against Wideopen & District U17 on Sunday.
The home side took the lead through Olly James as he slotted the ball home from five yards after some cutting edge build-up play.
The greens doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Olly James was brought down after a clever run into the penalty area. He coolly finished to put the side 2-0 up at half time. The home side looked to continue from where they left off in the second half with a shot which looked to have beaten the keeper, only to see the ball bounce back off the post.
This lifted Wideopen who were quickly able to counter-attack down the other end of the pitch and score to make it 2-1. Hexham’s lead was further reduced after a second Wideopen goal brought the scores level.
The game soon became an end-to-end affair with the scores level and both teams having chances to take the lead. With five minutes to go and extra time on cards, Hexham took the lead through Olly James who completed his hat-trick to make it 3-2.
Hexham were able to see out the final minutes to get their name in the hat for the semi-finals draw.
