TYNEDALE Ladies came from behind to earn an impressive 2-2 draw against top of the league Newcastle II.

The re-arranged home game on Wednesday, February 6 saw a full strength Tynedale side start brightly with a number of strong attacks. And within a few minutes a fantastic solo run by striker Becca Glaister saw her send the ball flying into the back of the Newcastle goal - a fantastic start against a team who are rarely defeated.

However, with the game still open and both teams having their share of the attack, Newcastle equalised.

The second half saw Tynedale defend strongly with Sarah Martindale and Emma Anderson holding resolutely as numerous chances came and went for Newcastle.

Tynedale’s goalkeeper, and player of the match, Nicky Baguley had a fantastic game making many excellent saves. Newcastle eventually broke through and took the lead.

But the lead lasted only a few minutes as Becca Glaister carried to ball at speed into the attacking circle and scored an excellent second goal.

The hard-fought draw saw Tynedale rise to third place in the Northumberland A league.

On Saturday, February 9, Tynedale hosted Whitley Bay third team. Whitley Bay’s strong attack saw them take the lead as Tynedale struggled to settle early on.

Impressive inter-linking play from Sue Crawford and Rachael Little saw Esme Gallagher score a precise first Tynedale goal. But after Tynedale failed to capitalise on their momentum, Whitley Bay scored three goals in quick succession from open play and penalty corners as the Tynedale defence were stretched.

Gallagher scored her second goal by sweeping the ball into the net after an accurate pass from midfielder Vicky Forster. With the score at 4-2 Tynedale had a goal from a penalty corner disallowed, but an acute reverse stick shot from player of the match Annie Anderson was met on the post by Lizzie Scott whose block saw the ball fly into the goal. A late Whitley Bay goal however hampered any Tynedale hopes of a late equaliser with the final score being a 5-3 win to Whitley Bay.
