A TEAM from Hexham’s Queen Elizabeth High School has competed on the national volleyball stage.

They took on teams from Yorkshire in the first round proper of the England U15 girls’ tournament, in Leeds, last weekend.

Both matches ended in defeat, but the experience gained is set to stand the girls in good stead for their future development in the game.

Matches were contested over three sets, and Hexham lost 2-1 in a closely-fought match against Hull, before losing two tight sets against Leeds in a 2-0 reverse.

Nevertheless, the QEHS team of Zuza Pasak, Steph Ellison, Grace Peatfield-Muter, Lucy Shorey, Hattie Brown and Rebeka Little, went up against sides who are used to playing at a high standard of national volleyball.

The team is made up of experienced players and new additions. All players are full of enthusiasm and are keen to develop their skills.

Coached by James Ellison, the team has performed well to reach national level competition, and has been tipped to go from strength to strength.
