HEXHAM Girls suffered a 3-1 defeat to West Allotment in the Pin Point Junior League’s U16 Girls’ Cup.

Playing at home, Hexham went a goal down five minutes before half time, when a looping shot found its way into the net.

After an entertaining first period, during which both sides created chances, the second half continued in the same vein.

West Allotment doubled their advantage following a well-worked move. But Hexham, who worked hard throughout, scored a well deserved equaliser.

With the hosts pushing forward for an equaliser, the visitors scored a breakaway goal to seal the tie.

Both sides were applauded off the field.

Hexham FC’s welfare officer Cheryl Hutchinson said: “This was a first class game with both sides committed to trying to win this cup tie.”

l Ponteland United Blacks were 5-2 winners over Tynemouth Blues in the Pin Point Junior U14 League.

Hot shot Joseph Nicholson continued his fine goalscoring form this season with a hat-trick.

Rhys Johnson and Thomas Scougall were also on target, while Tom Parkin was named man of the match for Ponteland.
