IN the Northumbria Table Tennis League, Newton A suffered a 6-4 defeat to St Columbas B in Division One.
John Russell scored two points for Newton, with Dave Lucas adding a third. Russell and Lucas teamed up in the pairs to add a further point.
But the team fared much better against Matfen Centurions and Matfen Senators, respectively.
They defeated Centurions 7-3, with Graeme Bell scoring three points. Dave Lucas and John Russell contributed two points each.
The most impressive win was an 8-2 victory over the Senators. Bell again scoring three points, Lucas and Bell two each, and Bell and Russell pairing up to add a final point.
In Division Two, Newton B were 8-2 winners over Cramlington Jaguars (John Henderson 3, Ian Armstrong 2, Tom Manuel 2, Henderson and Manuel 1).
Newton B drew 5-5 with Saints (Henderson 3, Armstrong 1, Manuel 1).
In Division Three, Newton C lost 7-3 to Ouston D (Raymond Lazareto 1, John Morgan 1, David Neal 1).
Newton C were 8-2 winners over Matfen Consensus (Julian Manuel 2, Neal 1, Andy Smith 1, Manuel and Neal 1).
Newton C also drew 5-5 with Cramlington Knights (Lazareto 2, Morgan 2, Manuel 1).
