HEXHAM enjoyed a 4-2 win at home to Ponteland in the U14 Girls’Wade Financial Trophy.

The six-goal encounter was very much a game of two halves, with Ponteland catching the Hexham defence napping to take the lead.

The hosts battled hard during the opening period, but found chances hard to come by, while Ponteland forced the home goalkeeper into making some vital saves.

The visitors went 2-0 and appeared to be in the driving seat before half time.

But Hexham made a breakthrough 10 minutes into the second half, thanks to a cool finish from inside the box.

The equaliser came two minutes later, followed by two further goals.

Hexham FC’s Cheryl Hutchinson said: “The second half was remarkable. The opposition coach was full of praise for the girls’ attitude. It was a great day for the team.”
