TEENAGER Daniel Joyce earned a third place finish at the Durham County Schools Cross Country Championships.
The Slaley athlete ran impressively in the intermediate boys’ category at last Saturday’s event.
Representing the borough of Gateshead, the pupil of St Thomas More School in Blaydon, finished behind top two Henry Johnson and Will Bellamy, both of West Wearside.
Joyce was up against competitors from across the North, including Darlington, Derwentside, and Durham Central.
Last month, Joyce was awarded the Stan Calvert Scholarship at the Sport Tynedale Awards, following a successful 2018.
It included a bursary for £600 towards the cost of his continued development. Among his achievements last year, the teenager represented England, winning gold in the 800m at the Schools International Athletic Board Championships.
