BRAD Potts scored his first club for Preston North End in their 4-1 win over Queen’s Park Rangers on Saturday.

The 24-year-old midfielder, from Wark, notched the final goal of the game in the 87th minute at Loftus Road.

The Championship fixture was Potts’ second appearance for the Lancashire club, following his move from League One Barnsley earlier this month.

Speaking afterwards, he said: “It was a great team performance. Obviously we knew before the match that it would be a big game and we needed a real team performance to get the three points, and I thought everybody was brilliant.

“We had a game plan that we’ve been working on all week in training - for me and Browney (Alan Browne) to be making runs in behind and it was causing them problems.”

Potts’ goal came after Lukas Nmecha’s fierce drive was palmed up in the air by QPR keeper Joe Lumley, and the former Wark junior arrived late to knock the ball in off the post.

Jayden Stockley, Jordan Storey and Browne were Preston’s other scorers on the day, while Matt Smith scored a consolation for QPR in the 84th minute.

Stockley is another new arrival at Preston, as the Lilywhites attempt to climb away from the Championship’s relegation zone.

Potts arrived at Preston full of confidence, having already scored seven goals for Barnsley this season.

But the player, who started his career at Carlisle United, had already played at Championship level with Barnsley, and saw the move as an opportunity to play at a higher level once again.

Potts famously scored at Wembley for Blackpool in their 2-1 League Two play-off final win over Exeter in May 2017.
