THERE was disappointment for Wylam Rockettes U14 as they lost by the odd goal in five at Ponteland in the quarter-finals of the Northumberland County FA Cup.

Ponteland started the stronger of the two sides, and went 1-0 up before Wylam’s girl of the game Molly Pigg equalised and was unlucky not to give her side the lead shortly afterwards when she struck the woodwork.

Ponteland restored their advantage just before half time, but early in the second half the Rockettes equalised again, this time courtesy of a left footed strike from Georgina Harland which looped over the keeper.

There was little between the two teams but with 10 minutes remaining Ponteland scored again to make it 3-2, and this time Wylam could not find another equaliser.

In the Northumberland Girls’ League, Wylam Rockettes U18 Real put on an impressive display as they comfortably won their home match against Cramlington United.

Girl of the game Sophie Rogers ended up scoring six, whilst Georgia Briggs notched a hat-trick including a stunning strike from a narrow angle, while Elley Raine’s attacking full back play was rewarded with a goal.

Wylam Rockettes U18 United were unfortunate not to get anything out of their home match against Montagu & North Fenham.

Montagu took the lead in the first half from a corner but with girl of the game Laura O’Neil driving United forward, Molly Hails scored the equaliser early in the second half.

The second period was a close affair, with both teams hitting the crossbar. A draw looked likely before Montagu scored with two minutes of the game remaining.

Wylam Rockettes U16 won 2-1 away to Heaton Hawks thanks to a Josie Fenwick brace. Isabelle Lewis caught the eye with some robust defending and a continuous supply of pin-point through balls for the Rockettes attack to run on to.
