HURDLER Darren Towart has recorded a personal best time as part of his preparations for the World Masters Indoor Championships.

The Tynedale Harrier competed in Manchester at last weekend’s Sale Harriers’ Open Series event.

Towart got off to a flying start, running his 60m hurdles heat in 9.89s, a personal best.

He went on to take part in two 60m flat races, recording times of 7.87s and 7.90s, respectively.

Another Tynedale Harrier, Liam Collins, also took part in the event and finished second in his 60m hurdles heat, with a time of 8.67s.

Towart said: “It was a great run out for us both and we really enjoyed it. I’ve just recovered from a cold, so I wasn’t expecting too much. I also competed in the 200m at Sale and recorded a time of 24.74s, which I was pleased with because I haven’t been training for that distance.”

Towart, who enjoyed a successful 2018, has started working with renowned coach Peter Venus.

“Peter has been putting me through my paces and I am learning all the time. The sessions are hard work but they will stand me in good stead for what I have coming up.”

The World Indoor Masters Championships will take place in Poland in March.
