MUCH has changed in the district over the past 100 years or so.

But these photos from the early years of the 20th century prove that football has remained a popular pastime throughout the ages.

These fascinating images from seasons leading up to the First World War show various line-ups of Elsdon Football Club, and perhaps other local teams.

They show off the fashions of their time, with knee-length shorts, long-sleeved shirts, and lace-up collars.

The collection has been provided by Hexham resident Gordon Hull, who is keen to find out more information about the people in the pictures, which were made into postcards.

He said: “My wife’s grandfather James Ord played for Elsdon and we think he’s pictured here, as well as his brother, George Ord.

“For their era, the photography is excellent, and the faces are crystal clear.
“We know at least two of the photos are of Elsdon teams, but what of the others?

“Are they other local teams, perhaps Elsdon’s opponents pictured on the day of a match?

“It would be interesting if any Courant readers recognise the players in the photos. I would be very keen to hear from anybody who does?”
