HEXHAM badminton player Charlotte Graham is celebrating a successful month in the medals once again.

A gold and silver double success at Tyneside Badminton Centre on the Badminton England national U17 circuit saw Charlotte impress despite being two years younger than her competitors.

The 13-year-old again teamed up with partner Amy Ward, from Riverside Badminton Club in Morpeth, for the girls’ doubles. Their route to the final saw them defeat Northumberland’s Ellen Davison and Ponteland’s Lucy Dodd.

This win gave Charlotte and Amy a significant boost of confidence and spurred them onto the final where they won 21-20 for their first U17 gold medal.

The impressive performances came after she won a silver medal at the U19 girls’ doubles in Thornaby last Saturday.

Competing in the U15 circuit event in Nottingham earlier this month, Charlotte bagged two gold medals and a bronze as Northumberland’s only representative.

Despite losing out in the singles semi finals, Charlotte teamed up with new partner Alice Parker of Leeds for the U15 doubles event. After some fiercely contested and close matches, Charlotte and Alice defeated the number one seeds 21-17 to win gold.

In the mixed doubles, Charlotte again teamed up with a new partner, James Hamilton of Nottinghamshire. The pairing was an instant success and could well be competing for more National Circuit U15 titles later in the season.

They came through their final group matches with impressive performances, before winning the final 21-11.

The successful medal-laden month means that Charlotte has moved into the top 10 in England for mixed doubles at U15.

Charlotte said: “This has been a busy few weeks and I’m very happy with how it’s going. I’m gaining more confidence, especially in doubles and mixed.

“Who knows where this momentum will lead but I’m enjoying testing my form and progress.”
