THERE was a footballing shock on Saturday when Wallington hit seven goals past Ponteland United.
The two Northern Alliance Premier Division sides met at Ponteland in the Northumberland FA Les Todd Senior Benevolent Bowl.
High-flying Ponteland had enjoyed an impressive season prior to the match, reaching second position in the league table.
But they were humbled during the visit of mid-table Wallington, who got the better of their hosts during a tenacious cup tie, winning 7-1.
Forward Tom Truscott scored a remarkable six goals in the match, while Kyle Reardon was also on target.
Ponteland had a player sent off, and finished the match with nine men after running out of substitutes.
