A STALWART of athletics in the district has been recognised by the sport’s governing body.
Lynne Marr was named official of the year in England Athletics’ volunteer of the year awards, in Coventry, where she received her trophy from renowned coach Toni Minichiello.
A seasoned runner of more than 30 years experience, the Tynedale Harrier has represented Great Britain.
She began officiating track and field events seven years ago.
A spokesman for England Athletics said Lynne dedicated most of her weekends to her role as a track judge and endurance official, and also mentored less experienced officials.
Lynne has also served as chief judge at the National Road Relays, as well as devising lap charts and other detailed paperwork.
She has also worked with disabled athletes, and created innovative visual cards to support deaf runners.
A delighted Lynne said: “I want to make people aware that it’s not all about being an athlete. There are other ways to be involved in the sport.”
Lynne was crowned regional winner of the award in September, when Prudhoe’s Holly Kelleher was also a regional winner for her services to running.
