ATHLETE Darren Towart has excelled on the world stage with an impressive performance in Spain.

The Tynedale Harrier reached the final of the 400m hurdles at the World Masters Championships in Malaga, on Friday.

Representing Great Britain and Ireland, he finished seventh overall in the M40 (age 40-45) category, with a time of 1m 7s.

The final was won by Edivaldo Monteiro, of Portugal, with a time of 54.63s.

James Atteen Fernandez, of Spain, was second, while Cedric Felip of France was third.
