OLYMPIC legend Daley Thompson will be guest of honour at next month's Kielder Marathon.
The double Olympic decathlon champion will meet runners and spectators at the marathon's programme of events, on October 6 and 7.
Race organiser Steve Cram, himself a former Olympic champion, said he was delighted his friend had accepted an invitation to attend.
"We're all really excited to have Daley joining us for this year's event," he said.
"As someone who enjoys his cycling challenges now, I've been telling Daley how much he needs to get up to this stunning part of the world and see what Northumberland has to offer.
"It will be great to have him at Kielder all weekend, meeting runners and supporters who will remember his extraordinary achievements back in the 1980s."
Thompson won decathlon gold medals at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, and broke the world record in the event four times.
The former athlete will also join Cram for a question and answer session at the Boat Inn, at Kielder Waterside, on the evening of Saturday October 6.
Thompson has recently launched a new range of protein drinks and bars, after expressing disappointment at the high levels of sugar in similar products.
The Kielder Marathon will also include a half marathon, 10k, and a run bike run event.
