CHARITABLE golfers at Slaley Hall have raised more than £10,000 in support of two North-East charities.

The Captain’s Charity Golf Day saw 24 teams compete against each other on the renowned Hunting Course at Slaley, which has previously hosted European Tour events.

The day was supported by various local businesses, and well-known sporting personalities, including cricketer Paul Collingwood, and former Newcastle United footballer Malcolm McDonald. Their efforts saw a total of £10,200 raised, which will be shared between the two beneficiaries.

Dementia Care delivers a range of services for people whose lives have been affected by dementia; while the Percy Hedley Foundation offers accommodation, education and support to disabled people.

The golf was followed by three course meal, and other activities, including a fund-raising raffle and silent auction.

The Highway Traffic Consultants team took the top spot on the leaderboard with a winning round of 102 points.

Slaley Hall Golf Club captain John Lee OBE said: “Thank you to all who attended our annual day, and for their kind donations.

“We raised much needed funds for these important and outstanding local charities which will help in areas of increasing need.”

Dr. Fraser Quin, chief executive at Dementia Care, said: “We would like to thank the staff, members and guests at the Slaley Hall charity golf event for their fabulous donation of £5,100.

“We can assure everybody involved that every penny will go towards the great work we do here at Dementia Care.”

Maria Hallett, fund-raiser at The Percy Hedley Foundation, said: “The foundation is truly honoured to have been chosen to benefit from the captain’s day at Slaley Hall.

“The generosity of everyone on the day was astounding and Captain John Lee OBE really pulled out all the stops to make sure he maximised the benefits to both charities.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day and we can’t thank the golf club and everyone involved enough.”
