A FAST-improving teenager has enjoyed further success with her nine-year-old Connemara pony.

Katie Fyfe, of Spartylea in the Allen Valleys, won the mountain and moorland ridden New Forest and Connemara class at the recent Sedgefield Show in County Durham.

But the 15-year-old’s smile got even bigger shortly afterwards, when she was crowned overall mountain and moorland ridden champion and overall supreme champion of the event.

It is the latest accolade this year for the Haydon Bridge High School pupil with Fly Out of the Blue.

Back in May, the pair teamed up to win the novice mountain and moorland working hunter championship at the Northumberland County Show.

“We had a great day at the Sedgefield Show,” said Katie’s proud mum Anne.

“It was great for Katie to be called back into the ring with the other champions, and when she was judged to be overall champion, it was a lovely surprise.

“But Katie has worked exceptionally hard, and this has been the best year she has had so far with the Connemara.”

Katie began riding a Shetland pony at the age of five at a relative’s farm, and attended lessons at Sinderhope Pony Trekking Centre.

She made the transition from her first pony, a Welsh section B mare, to the Connemara with support from South Northumberland Pony Club.
