CUSTOMERS have reacted with sadness to the news that Mickley's beloved Jiggery Pokery tearoom has closed.

The familiar cafe and tearoom in the village centre sits in what was formerly a Co-operative store, dating back to the 1920s.

In May last year the business was taken on by Jacqui Brown who threw herself into village life.

The tearoom, which championed local food and treats, often filled its windows with eyecatching displays for local events such as Remembrance Day and the Tour of Britain.

Jacqui has also worked with the nearby Mickley First School, recently supporting pupils in their entreprise project to create their own branded sweets.

However earlier this week an announcement was made via the Jiggery Pokery's Facebook page that the tearoom has closed its doors.

Scores of concerned customers were quick to express their condolences to Jacqui, with many commenting that they would miss the tearoom.

Jacqui said: "It is with regret that we have had to make the decision to close our doors at Jiggery Pokery Tearoom & Shop.

"We deeply appreciated the support received and it has been an absolute pleasure to serve our customers.

"We have had some amazing experiences and had the privilege to work with some fantastic artisan businesses. Other businesses within Dene Workshops, Mickley such as award winning salon The Salon Craig Bolam, Debbie’s Beauty Lounge, The Cotton Tree and The Crafter’s Emporium are all continuing – please continue to support them whenever and wherever possible.

"It is vital to support local businesses if you can."
