A MAN was airlifted to hospital from Riding Mill on Friday night after sustaining serious burns from a barbecue.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) helicopter landed on the Broomhaugh First School field at around 5pm.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was treated by the paramedic and doctor team on the scene for the injuries, which included facial burns.
He was then flown to Newcastle's RVI within seven minutes, and was said to be in a serious but stable condition on arrival.
