NORTHUMBRIAN Water has been carrying out emergency repairs on a pumping station near Ovingham.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed on the Ovingham road between the village and Wylam.

The large amount of vehicles along the road has caused problems on the road, with one minor incident already occurring.

A spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water said: “We are very sorry to hear that there has been a road incident close to where we have been carrying out emergency repairs to our pumping station in Ovingham.

“We are currently carrying out work here to ensure our customers have an uninterrupted top quality supply of water over the festive period. We had to get in quickly because it was an emergency situation. To enable this essential work to take place we installed temporary traffic management on Ovingham Road. We anticipate the work being complete by the end of February and would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this might cause.”
