CONCERNS have been raised by residents about the potential of more houses being built in Prudhoe after ‘for sale’ signs emerged on the land of the old hospital site.

The land off Moor Road, owned by Homes England, has been put up for sale by surveyor and development consultant Thomas Lister.

County councillor for Prudhoe South, Gordon Stewart, said a number of people locally were concerned that the greenbelt land would be sold for housing.

However, he moved to reassure people by pointing out that the advertisement for the two plots of land stated that there will be a restriction on the use of the site.

The details of the sale on Thomas Lister’s website stated: “The vendors will impose a restriction that the use of the site shall be restricted to farmland and woodland use only.”

In addition, Coun. Stewart said the county council’s new core strategy will emphasise preserving the green belt.

“I want to reassure people that the current administration has made it clear it is not going to build on greenbelt for houses,” he said.
