SUSAN, the gentlemen’s barber, is usually at Matfen Village Hall from 10am until 12.30pm on the first Monday of the month.

As this is a Bank Holiday in May, she will be here instead on Monday, May 9.

Susan also takes on ladies’ short-styled hair and has an increasing and enthusiastic clientele.

On the spot and with no need to book, this is an extremely useful facility, so do come and test out her skills. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

AN interesting event coming up at St Mary’s Church, Stamfordham, is ‘Drinks, Dessert and a Darn Good Sing-Song’.

This is a sing-along with David Rearden and is on Saturday, April 30, at 7pm, with a quiz thrown in for good measure.

There is a bar, nibbles and puddings – sounds good to me! Donations are welcome to St Mary’s Development Fund.

OTHER good news from Stamfordham is the fact that the fund-raising total for Stamfordham play park was up to £20,871 in March.

The next Friends of Stamfordham Play Park event is a coffee morning from 10am to midday on Saturday, May 21, in Stamfordham Village Hall.

THE first meeting of the 2016 Matfen fete committee is on Tuesday, at 7pm, in Matfen Village Hall.

The fete itself is on Saturday, July 2. Suzanne Doney is heading the organisation and is grouping the attractions and activities together.

One person can then take charge of each group of activities, with others volunteering to play their part in the various groups.

Meetings are few, only two or three, but lively and great fun and we need all the people we can possibly line up, of all the generations represented in the village and surrounding area, to make this year’s event the best ever!

The fete is always much appreciated on the day, but it takes a lot of work and these traditions only survive with enthusiastic volunteers prepared to do their bit.

So do please come and get involved next Tuesday – it really is the best possible way to make new friends, feel part of the community and make your contribution to it.
