PLANS to build another 10 new houses in Great Whittington have met with opposition from the Lead Local Flood Authority and Northumbrian Water.

The objections centre on concerns over insufficient drainage plans for the development, on land west of the Great Whittington Village Hall.

A statement from Northumbrian Water read: “Development shall not commence until a detailed scheme for the disposal of foul and surface water from the development has been submitted to, and approved in writing by, the local planning authority in consultation with Northumbrian Water and the Lead Local Flood Authority.

“Sufficient plans are required to prevent the increased risk of flooding from any sources in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework.”

In 2016, villagers unsuccessfuly opposed the Briars Field development of 10 luxury homes, which they argued was too large for their rural village.

The latest plans, for 10 houses with five, four and three bedrooms, were submitted by Great Whittington Developments Ltd in May.

A public consultation was held at Great Whittington Village Hall, where residents were assured that traffic safety was a priority during the proposed works.

The closing date for comments on the application is on Thursday.
