Two girls have been seriously injured after they were hit by a van on a country road.

The collision happened on the unclassified road to Rait, about 300 metres from the A90 Inchmichael interchange, at around 3.25pm on Tuesday.

The two girls, aged 14 and 15, were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries.

The driver of the van, a Citroen Berlingo, was not injured.

The road was closed for around three hours while officers carried out a full collision investigation.

Police are appealing for information about the incident.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or who may have seen the van driving on the road at that time or after the collision to get in touch by call Police Scotland quoting 2446 of July 23 on 101 or speaking to any police officer.
