A WEEK after it opened its doors, Hexham Courant Journalists Samantha Teasdale and Natalie Finnigan popped down to Muro Lounge for a taste.
Despite being turned away around 1.30pm on Tuesday, November 7 due to the lunchtime rush, we were welcomed back by a host and seated at a nice table near the back an hour later.
A prompt, friendly and informative server told us about the different menus on offer and how to use the QR code or order at the bar. Not wanting to leave our seats after sitting down, we chose the app option - which we found was accessible and easy to understand. The layout was easy, text was large, so we could see the different categories to find what we were looking for.
After several minutes going back and forth on what we wanted - we made our choice. A halloumi burger for Natalie and a Lounge bacon cheeseburger for myself, without any tomatoes, burger sauce, red onion, or gherkins on it.
Completing our order with our drinks, a Lounge's homemade pink lemonade and an apple and elderflower tonic, we paid for the meal and found it was delivered to the table within 20 minutes.
Not wanting to wait any longer, we delved right into our burgers, noticing the buns and ingredients freshness.
The bacon cheeseburger was delicious, with its extra American and mature cheese and crispy bacon but it was sadly accompanied by slightly underdone chips - but it was still tasty enough, so there was no chip left behind on the plate.
The halloumi burger was lightly battered but slightly underdone and the chili jam was a little too sweet. The coleslaw - was sadly flavourless and did not add anything extra to the meal.
The mac and cheese accompanying the two meals was better than expected. After humming and harring about the size and whether not we would regret not going large, a small portion was exactly right.
The golden pasta was covered in cheese and was delicious, but we would have liked it to have been crispier on top.
Overall, we enjoyed our first visit to Muro Lounge. We believe that it was an excellent value for money, for two mains, a side and two soft drinks which was only £40.
It was a family-friendly and pooch-friendly cafe with quality food, and we look forward to trying more dishes in the future.
