TIME is running out for members of the public to vote for their favourite “homes of the future” designs by pupils from Hexham Middle School.

Twenty four Year 7 and 8 pupils from the middle school formed teams to work with sustainable house builder, Trivselhus by Esh, to transfer their ideas on to paper.

And, after weeks of research and hard work the student teams exhibited their designs in school and teachers and fellow pupils at the school were asked to vote for the final three designs to be put forward for the public vote.

Now work from Soam Design, Eco Enterprises and OCE – the three winning teams – have been put on display at Trivselhus by Esh’s show home at Hexham Gate, on Corbridge Road in Hexham, for the public to come and see the youngsters’ innovative ideas on building sustainable homes.

As part of the competition the 11, 12 and 13-year-olds visited the housing development at Hexham Gate where Trivselhus by Esh is building 16 sustainable homes – the first development of its kind in the North-East.

Paul Freeman-Myers, project lead at Hexham Middle School said: “The children have really absorbed themselves in this project, not only researching existing technologies and incorporating them in to their designs but also considering ways in which we can change the way in which we live to consume less energy.”

Maureen Williams at Trivselhus by Esh added: “We would encourage people to come down and see for themselves just how we might live in the years to come.”
