OVER 150 people stepped inside an historic wooden church at Fourstones to view a fund-raising quilt exhibition last Sunday.
The event, at St Aidan‘s Church, raised £280 after 40 quilts, many with intricate appliqued designs, were displayed in the one-room wooden building which dates back to the 1890s.
One of the quilters and former churchwarden Gill Sandbach said the money raised would help pay for redecorating the interior of the building.
“We lost count of how many people we had coming through. We were absolutely amazed,” she explained.
Among the items on display were two Baltimore quilts, decorated with a series of individually-designed boxes, one of which was draped across the altar.
