UNTIDY back gardens are turning parts of a Haydon Bridge housing estate into an eyesore.

Members of Haydon Parish Council have reported sightings of discarded carpets, televisions and other household items outside several properties in Langley Gardens.

But social landlord Isos Housing said it was aware of the issue, and that the items would be removed.

Speaking at a meeting of Haydon Parish Council, Coun. Eileen Charlton said: “Several people have been complaining about things gathering in back gardens.

“These are Isos properties. They have changed hands a few times lately, but it looks a real eyesore, with old TVs, carpets rolled up and other discarded items.”

Meanwhile, Coun. Vera Fletcher called on Isos to do more to help Haydon Bridge residents who are in need of social or affordable housing.

She said: “Village people can no longer find this sort of accommodation in Haydon Bridge and are having to leave.”

An Isos spokesman said: “Our housing officer was already aware of the problems with rubbish and discarded items behind homes on Langley Gardens and has arranged for all the items to be removed.”

Regarding housing allocation policy, he added: “For lettings in Haydon Bridge, all Isos properties are let through the county-wide Northumberland Homefinder choice-based lettings scheme.”

“Our records show that of the 16 general needs lettings in Haydon Bridge over the last 12 months, 11 households moved within the village, four moved from within 10 miles, and one household moved from a 20 mile radius.”
