A PLATOON of 120 solar panels could soon be harnessing the power of the sun in the South Tyne Valley.

County planners have approved the application at Crow Hall Farm in Bardon Mill.

The panels will be laid out in two 30m long rows, 2.5m above ground level and generate 27kWh per annum – saving the equivalent of 14.80 tonnes of carbon emissions.

There were no objections to the proposal by Brian Newman of Catton.

Planning officer Sarah Seabury said the impact on the landscape would not be significant and was outweighed by the benefits.
