ALL our gardens have benefited from the hot sun and gentle rain – and on Sunday, we will have the opportunity once again to visit one of the most delightful gardens in Greenhead up at Braeside when Shelagh is opening her garden for the afternoon as part of the National Gardens Scheme which supports many worthwhile charities.

There’ll be teas with homemade cakes, a tombola and raffle, plus a plant sale. There’s a small charge for adults but children can come for free.

Braeside is at the top of the old A69, the Greenhead Bank.

THERE’S a dominoes drive tonight, with refreshments, in the village hall starting at 7.30pm in aid of the church in Greenhead. All ages and skill levels very welcome.

ALSO this weekend, look out for the local bands and performers at various venues in and around Gilsland and Greenhead, including the Hadrian Singers, all Busking the Border.

A merry musical reminder of our very special position on the edge of counties, parishes, national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty!

The Greenhead Hotel will be featuring an interesting selection of local real ales, to aid inspiration. If you can sing, play or tell a good tale, you’ll be very welcome, too.

THE Churches Together are celebrating evensong in St Cuthbert’s on Sunday, to which all are welcome.

JOHN Dodd has asked me to let everyone know what a splendid response there was to the charity concert last Friday evening.

A total of £1,110 was raised for for the Eden Valley Hospice at Home and Macmillan Nurses.

John, whose humour and storytelling ability are legendary, has been raising money for cancer charities in memory of his wife for some time now. The total is now in the region of £10,500! A wonderful tribute.

LIKE many people, John is a regular supporter of the Gilsland Show for which the schedules are now available at the tea room.

Make sure you know what classes there will be so you can contribute to this annual display of local talent, in a very wide range of fields, come August!
