No deaths have been recorded at hospitals in the region in relation to Covid-19 for a second day running.

This means the death toll since the start of the pandemic remains at 677, the same figure since Sunday’s figures were released by NHS England.

Meanwhile in the latest stats released by Northumberland County Council, a total of 26 new positive cases were recorded in the region over the last 24 hours.

This increase brings the total number of positive cases of coronavirus in the region to 16,508 since the pandemic began last March.

In Tynedale, four of our wards make the worse-affected list, with both Hexham West and Hexham East currently the highest with six positive cases each of Covid-19.

They’re joined on the list by Ponteland North and Haltwhsitle, who each have five positive cases currently in their area.

Each of our other wards have between zero and four active positive cases according to the latest figures released by the Council.

The news comes following the announcement from the Government that over 20 million people in the country have now had their first vaccination against coronavirus.
