A THREE-WEEK project to carry out £200,000 of strengthening works to a sewer pipe near Corbridge is due to begin on Monday.
Contractors will be relining an 800-metre section of the pipe at Farnley Gate, between Hexham and Corbridge, on behalf of Northumbrian Water.
The pipe carries waste water from a pumping station accessed along a track from Corbridge village car park.
The pumping station will have to be switched off while the work is carried out.
Tankers will be used for the duration of the work to draw down the sewage and transport it to the treatment works near Riding Mill to be processed.
A spokesman for Northumbrian Water said: “The tanker activity will be limited to week days, between 8am and 5pm, as will two-way traffic lights that will be situated on the A695 at Farnley.
“Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 20, subject to some tests during the previous week.
“We anticipate the work will be completed within three weeks, though hope to be finished sooner.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the additional traffic and thank customers and motorists for their patience during this essential work.”
