Creating 18 jobs – with three positions still to be filled – the £600,000 development on West Road has been launched just in time for the festive season.
Youngsters from Hexham’s St Mary’s First School will be on hand to perform an official ribbon cutting ceremony with newly-appointed store manager, Dan Thompson, from Crawcrook.
“It’s been a busy few weeks, but it’s great to see the store fully stocked now the last few deliveries have arrived,” said Dan.
“We’ve got 14 or 15 staff already in place, but we’re still recruiting for a few more.”
Months of work has gone into refurbishing the former garage premises, which have undergone several changes of use in recent years, and were last used as a lighting showroom. The supermarket will be open from 7am to 11pm every day and will include a cash machine and nine parking spaces.
County councillor for Hexham West, Coun. Derek Kennedy, said: “This is a welcome addition to the area.
“And I’m sure it will provide people with opportunity to walk to a local store. I know a lot of people are looking forward to having this on their doorstep. I have promised that I will monitor the traffic situation as this is a busy junction and I will look for improvements if necessary.”
