STAFF at a Hexham salon were last weekend thrilled to receive a trophy paying credit to their fund-raising efforts.

Saks Hexham has raised over £8,000 in just over a year for The Eve Appeal, a charity which funds research into ovarian, cervical, vulval, vaginal and womb cancer.

And on Sunday, staff headed down to the Hilton Metropole Hotel in London to attend the Saks Awards 2016 ceremony.

They received a trophy for the Top Fund-raising Salon Award, having raised the most out of Saks salons across the country.

Andrea Currah, franchisee of Saks on Priestpopple, said: “It is fabulous – we are over the moon to have received the trophy. All of the staff deserved it as the girls worked so hard.

“I want to thank the public and customers for donating so generously – we had people coming into the salon who don’t get their hair done here to support us just because they had heard about what we were doing and the charity. There was a lot of generosity from family and friends too and people who donated raffle prizes and that type of thing.

Matfen Hall has been the location for two fund-raising events, an afternoon tea event in November which raised just over £4,000, and a fashion show in November 2015 raising £4,321, which were set up by staff from the Hexham branch.
