THE historic Otterburn Castle has gone on the market for an impressive £1.4m.
The Grade II 9th century building is currently used as a country house hotel and has been brought to the market by property specialists Strutt and Parker.
Having lived through centuries of history, the castle is close to the site of the Battle of Otterburn, which took place in 1388, and there are painted panels above a fireplace which depict scenes from the fight.
Highlights include a castellated tower and 32 acres of gardens, while the 17 en-suite bedrooms are set over three floors.
There are four reception rooms and staff accommodation comprising a house and three flats.
