HUNDREDS of homes in the Allen Valleys were without power for almost 11 hours on Sunday (APRIL 22).

Around 600 customers in the Allendale and Catton areas were affected by the power cut, from 2.40am.

Northern Powergrid said the problem was caused by a fault on the overhead power network in the Catton area.

But while power was restored to some homes before 6am, others had to wait until early afternoon to be reconnected.

A Northern Powergrid spokesman said: "Our engineers were able to restore power to more than 300 customers by 5.55am, and the remaining customers were back on by 12.58pm.

"We would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst our teams worked to get the power back on."

Despite thunderstorms in the area early on Sunday morning, the spokesman said the cause of the fault had not been established.
