A podcast celebrating Northumberland's wildlife, dialect and gardening has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Nature Garden is in the running for Best Regional Podcast at the Independent Podcast Awards 2026.

Carl Stiansen, host and producer, said: "We're thrilled that The Nature Garden has been shortlisted for Best Regional Podcast.

"The programme is proudly rooted in Northumberland – our people, wildlife, gardens, dialect and heritage – so this recognition means a great deal to our small team of volunteer contributors."

The podcast explores gardening, wildlife, conservation, and local history through friendly, conversational episodes.

Contributors include gardening expert Tom Pattinson, ornithologist Tom Cadwallender, and wildlife and conservation specialist Steve Lowe.

It also features interviews with regional and national wildlife charities.

Mr Pattinson, from Lesbury, said: "We began the podcast as a passionate offshoot, and it remains a homespun production rooted in Northumberland while reaching listeners around the world."

The Nature Garden has been downloaded more than 36,000 times across 80 episodes and has reached listeners in 127 countries.

It has regularly appeared in the UK Top 20 and US Top 100 gardening and leisure podcast charts.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on November 4.
