A charity is lighting up the festive season with a new Christmas lights trail to raise awareness of its work.

Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care will host a festive switch-on at 6pm on Friday, November 13, at Daft as a Brush House in Gosforth, Newcastle.

Daft as a Brush travels over 600,000 miles each year transporting patients, from Hexham, Ponteland, Northumberland and down to Middlesbrough.

This year, the charity is giving free Christmas lights to 100 homes in Gosforth to create a glowing Christmas Lights Trail.

Andrea Glover, CEO of Daft as a Brush, said: "Christmas has always been a special time at Daft as a Brush but this year we wanted to do something a little different and bring that festive spirit right into the heart of our local community.

"By taking our Christmas lights beyond Daft as a Brush House and into the streets of Gosforth, we hope to bring neighbours together, spread a little Christmas cheer and raise awareness of the thousands of cancer patients who rely on our free transport service."

Each home will receive a set of 3,000 LED lights, and residents are encouraged to display them outside to help create a magical community trail.

The lights will be switched on by 12-year-old Lucas Ilderton, who raised nearly £1,000 for the charity in honour of his grandmother.
